Graduate Program

Welcome to the Graduate Programs offered in the Department of Elementary and Special Education.

A review of the various degree programs offered in the Department of Elementary and Special Education.

If you are already certified to teach elementary grades (1-8) you may choose to obtain a Masters Degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Early Childhood Education, or Reading Instruction.

If you have an undergraduate degree in a non-related area (psychology, sociology, English) you need the Initial Licensure Program.  This program allows you to take the needed undergraduate education courses you need for licensure and simultaneously earn a Masters Degree. For the traditional Master’s degree program you need licensure for admittance.

There are sometimes teachers who wish to take graduate courses, but not commit to a Masters Degree program. While it is true that a teacher can take up to six hours of graduate courses without admittance to the program, it is still helpful for you to contact one of the graduate coordinators.  We can help you with this process.
